Alaska is a land of superlatives full of incredible nature and wide-open spaces. Here you will find the highest peak in North America, the unique wildlife and much more. I think all Americans should show that they have visited Alaska at least once in their lives, but because the place is so big and so many attractions, it can be a challenge to decide which places to visit in Alaska.
Let’s put things in perspective, Alaska Huge. It’s so huge that it would fit in California, Texas, and Montana. Don’t be upset if you don’t see everything on a one or two-week trip, but rest assured that every day trip to Alaska will undoubtedly let you down and let it get even more. I know that was the case for me, my friends and family.

Alaska is one of the least populated in the US. state that attracts tourists far and wide. With its varied terrain or open spaces, mountains, forests and rich wildlife, this state is for adventure enthusiasts who may want outdoor activities such as skiing, mountain biking, kayaking and more. Simply put, it is an ideal destination for people of all ages and interests who enjoy the best of Alaska’s top ten places to visit.
In any case, besides my selection of some of Alaska’s coolest places to visit, some of which are remote and not easily accessible, some are for Alaskan road trips, while others are best for an Alaskan cruise.
1. Denali National Park and Conservation
Denali National Park is set in 6 million acres of wilderness and is one of Alaska’s most popular tourist attractions. Midway between Anchorage and Fairbanks, this park is home to grizzly bears, wolves, reindeers, and moose. More than 167 species of birds have been recorded in Denali National Park, one of the largest parks in the United States and surrounding the highest mountain in North America.
2. Alaska Highway
Popularly known as the Alaska Canada Highway (Alcan Highway), it is one of the most popular Alaska attractions. Built-in 1942, the Alaskan Military Highway runs from Dawson Creek in British Columbia (Canada) through the Yukon to Delta Junction near Fairbanks. This trip is a source of country-wide access to the Yukon area and southern Alaska and is a favorite for recreational vehicle travelers. The highway passes through Whitehorse, Canada, before crossing the international border into Alaska and the Delta junction.
3. Kenai Fjords National Park
Founded in 1980, Kenai Fjords National Park has 669,984 acres of land on the Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska, near Seward. The national park is home to large brown bears, which feed on fat salmon. This National Park provides the best sightseeing sights in much of the Fjord Coast of Kenai Peninsula (south of Anchorage) and is one of the best attractions in Alaska.
4. The Northern Museum of the University of Alaska
The University of North Alaska University Museum in Fairbanks is one of the most popular Alaskan destinations that tourists visit. This museum offers more than one million historical objects and natural history pieces. The permanent collection consists of ethnological objects created and used by native groups, a fine art collection that focuses on Alaskan art, archaeological finds from prehistoric cultures, bird collections and paleontological specimens. Joan Soranno designed the white structure with interesting lines and curves that resemble the Alaskan landscape.
5. Alaska Native Heritage Center
Outside Anchorage, the Heritage Center is an Alaska based dance and fairy tale collection site and the Cultural Hall full of exhibitors and local vendors displaying handmade crafts and works of art. This heritage center showcases the lives and values of Alaska’s 11 major cultural groups and is one of the most popular places in Alaska.
6. Iditarod National Historic Road
If you’re in the US state, you don’t have to wonder where to go in Alaska? Along with visiting parks, museums and wildlife, Alaska’s tourist attractions offer much more.
Alaska’s only national scenic trail, the Iditarod National Historic Trail, is a network of 2,300 miles of Nering in the Bering Strait and Seward near Anchorage.
This beautiful trail is used today and is best known for the Iditarod Trail sled race. The spacious scenery surrounding the entire route offers breathtaking views of the mountains glaciers, and wildlife.
7. Mendenhall Glacier
Located in the Mendenhall Valley, approx. 12 miles from downtown Juneau in the southeastern United States.
In Alaska, the Mendenhall Glacier is approx. 13.6 miles long. Accessed by road, the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center overlooks both the glacier and iceberg-dotted waters, while trails lead to the Nugget Falls rushing along the coast and the stunning mass of ice.
Rafting and kayaking trips allow visitors to swim between the mountains while wildlife such as black bears, porpoises, and beavers are often spotted while discovering this dazzling blue landscape. Don’t miss this place from many Alaskan destinations.
8. Lake Kenai
Kenai Lake is one of the most popular places to visit in Alaska. Located on Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, a large zigzag-shaped lake called Kenai Lake, which forms the watercourses of the Kenai River, is itself a place for fishing and other outdoor activities. This lake is 55.9 km from both Sterling and Seward motorways.
9. Totem Bight State Historical Park
North of Ketchikan, the Totem Bight State Historical Park is a 33-acre state park in the United States. Alaska State and one of the best places to visit in Alaska. In 1938, the US Forest Servicestart off a project to rescue, reconstruct, and create totem poles – a tradition that is gone. Abandoned totem columns have been restored or rebuilt, and 15 columns have been erected in the Ketchikan Totem Bight State Historic Park, which is today on the National Register of Historic Places.
10. Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Conservation
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve Alaska’s scattered national parks. It is one of the best known Alaska visitor attractions.
This glacier bay national park consists of 9 of the 16 highest peaks in the United States. This magnificent Canadian borderland is rich in glaciers, lakes and mountain streams and is rich in wildlife. An ideal country for mountaineers, hikers and water sports enthusiasts.
